Abstract
This paper deals with fuel cell / battery electric vehicles energy management improvement. The proposed strategy combines rule- and frequency separation-based energy management strategies key features, benefiting from each one advantages. Rule-based energy management strategy has the advantage of limiting the fuel cell power in order to improve its lifetime, however it does not take into account its dynamic, unlike the strategy based on a frequency separation, which respect the dynamic sources, but it does not take into account the limitation of the fuel cell power. In this paper, we conducted a comparative study between the two strategies, where we have shown the limits of each one, and then we presented our new strategy that combines the two strategies. For validation purposes, simulations and experiments are carried out on an electric vehicle emulator. A very relevant strategy is proposed based on a combination between rule-based and frequency separation energy management strategy, and the simulation and experimental results show the effectiveness of this strategy.
